He's pretty much seen it all at this point. This can become a problem if something genuinely surprises him. If he encounters something entirely new, he can freeze up with the shock. His age-earned wisdom also presents other issues. If one of these young whippersnappers manages to make a fool out of the old demon, he may get upset. And when he gets upset, he tends to lash out violently. Anyone younger than a few centuries doesn't get much respect from him, though he handles his summoners with patience. The quickest way to lose what little respect he has for mortals is to outright say you should be respected or feared. The idea of demanding such things rather than earning them is utterly repulsive to him. In battle, he revels in his seeming invulnerability. Kalak mocks his enemies, gloating at their failed attacks. He will occasionally hint at how they can hurt him, or tell them a weakness outright, but these are always lies. He thinks it's hilarious to make people jump through hoops in an effort to beat him, only to learn that they never had a chance to begin with. His real weaknesses are close-guarded secrets, kept hidden even from his master unless there's a need-to-know situation. Most importantly, he never reveals anything about his mortal life. He knows that reminders of it could leave him fatally weakened at a key moment. Because of this, most of his past masters never even learned what continent or century he's from, and none were ever told his mortal name willingly. If someone does learn these things, he will go to great lengths to silence them. His hair is gray, and he has a thick, neatly-trimmed beard. He's a bit on the tall side, and very stout, although his broad shoulders and heavyset figure don't quite explain his thunderously heavy footfalls. For his attire, Kalak prefers to shape his appearance into a tailored suit. He's supposed to give an appearance of control and sophistication, and the businesswear does the trick. Once the fighting starts, Kalak's appearance is much more malleable. He changes his form as much for psychological impact as for combat ability, so the results can be quite disturbing. Extra mouths, eyes, and limbs are a regular part of his arsenal. Due to his adaptive nature, he seldom takes the same form twice, but his utterly alien appearance is easy to recognize. [/style][STYLE=color: #191919; font-size: 10px; margin-top: 10px; margin-left: 10px;]ABOUT PAST EVENTS[/style][STYLE= margin: 0px 10px 0px 10px; border: 2px solid #191919; padding: 2px; font-family: verdana; height: 125px; overflow: auto; font-size: 10px; text-align: justify; background-color: #ffffff; opacity: 0.8] Mesanepada was born to a merchant family in the Sumerian city of Ur, almost 42 centuries ago. His upbringing gave him literacy and a grounding in math that set him above most of his countrymen, but his hopes of inheriting the family business were always eclipsed by his older brother Shulgi. Hoping to find dignified work, Mesanepada was thrilled when the city temple announced that it was looking for bookkeepers. Imagine his disappointment when he discovered that a clerk didn't command nearly as much respect as a cleric. His family urged him to work under Shulgi in their business, but he was convinced that his brother couldn't handle the responsibility and didn't want to be held responsible for his inevitable failure. Instead, he stayed at the temple, scrambling to do all the odd jobs that the priests considered below their concern. As the years passed, Mesanepada became more distant from his family and more fed up with his job. It was clear that Shulgi was actually doing a good job by this point, but he was too stubborn to leave his job at the temple. This might have continued until he died a bitter old man if the priests hadn't dumped a translation job in his lap. They had recovered some texts that they couldn't make sense of, and they figured they might as well let the desk drone handle it. As Mesanepada worked on the text, he became obsessed with it. He steadily unlocked its secrets, and it held the keys to secrets far greater. With the knowledge he gained, he made contact with an entity called The Fateweaver who offered him an escape from the frustrations of his mortal existence. Years and decades passed, and Mesanepada learned from this creature. He took unnatural power into himself, learning to change his form at will. As his power grew, he began acting stranger. He lashed out at the priests, costing him his job and his livelihood. When his family offered to help, he cut all ties with them and refused to leave his home, dedicating every waking moment to studying the Fateweaver's wisdom. Shulgi got worried about his little brother, and decided to go and visit him, bringing one of the more sympathetic priests to help reason with him. The results were unpleasant. Mesanepada's resentment and rage finally boiled over, and with his new-found power he easily killed the both of them. When he realized what he had done, Mesanepada's fury almost overwhelmed him. Every ounce of the power he had been taking in was screaming at him to take to the streets, and take his revenge on the entire city for not giving him what he deserved. It was all he could do to focus that raw emotion, choosing his target carefully. He set out to destroy the place that had been the bane of his entire adult life. He walked unnoticed through the city, using his powers to take the form of the priest he had killed. The moment he arrived in the temple, he cast the disguise aside. Tendrils dug into the masonry, shattering the pillars and bringing the whole place crashing down. Mesanepada died in that ruin, and Kalak was born. The Fateweaver rewarded his act of calculated vengeance with immortality as a demon, asking only for his service in return. Kalak gladly obliged, allowing himself to be summoned wherever he was needed, by mortal and demon alike. For the most part, the following millenia have been a blur. Kalak has been called to countless worlds in countless eras, fighting for good and evil with equal fervor. The only event that he thinks is worth his consideration was in the 15th century, when he met a recently-ascended demon by the name of Stitch. The two of them quickly became close, and formed the only stable relationship Kalak has ever had. They are still together to this day. While the frequent absences have strained their relationship at times, their immortality makes the deployments seem relatively short. Currently, Kalak is awaiting his latest orders. His summoning scroll has been sent down to Earth, and it just needs a curious occultist to unleash him on his homeworld once more. [/style][STYLE=color: #191919; font-size: 10px; margin-top: 10px; margin-left: 10px;]POWER SET[/style][STYLE= margin: 0px 10px 0px 10px; border: 2px solid #191919; padding: 2px; font-family: verdana; height: 125px; overflow: auto; font-size: 10px; text-align: justify; background-color: #ffffff; opacity: 0.8] Shapelessness Level: Beta Kalak can manipulate his body mass at will, reshaping it to whatever form is convenient at the time, or even several forms controlled by one mind. If wounded or cornered, he can absorb the bodies of the recently dead to restore or grow his mass. The lack of a consistent anatomy also makes things like blood and breathing unnecessary for his survival, and makes kinetic attacks all but useless against him. Modifications include extra limbs or tendrils, mouths, claws or fangs, bones, or carapaces. Telepathy: Level: Epsilon He can chat telepathically with fellow Warp Demons, his summoner, or people in his immediate presence. This is limited to conversation, and can't be used to read any thoughts that aren't intentionally sent. Omniglot Level: Deta Over the past four thousand years, Kalak has learned just about every mortal language, along with a few immortal ones. He is fluent and literate in just about any language he encounters, even dead languages. [/style][STYLE=color: #191919; font-size: 10px; margin-top: 10px; margin-left: 10px;]SECRETS & WEAKNESSES [/style][STYLE= margin: 0px 10px 0px 10px; border: 2px solid #191919; padding: 2px; font-family: verdana; height: 125px; overflow: auto; font-size: 10px; text-align: justify; background-color: #ffffff; opacity: 0.8] Conceptual Entity: As a Warp Demon, Kalak is as much a being of thought as he is a physical entity. His mental state can affect his powers. If he is reminded of his mortal life, he will become closer to his mortal self and be temporarily weakened. His name can bring him down a notch, and reminding him of an important event, such as the murder of his brother, will all but flatline his power level. Split Concentration: Kalak can only focus on controlling so much of himself. Past certain limits, he starts to come apart. If he divides into more than five bodies, they will all be weakened and unfocused, and the extras will start crumbling to dust in short order. Similarly, any mass over 1 ton will slowly disintegrate until he reaches a more manageable size. Proportional Strength: Though he seems incredibly strong, this is only because of his incredibly condensed body mass. If parts of his body are separated or destroyed, the still-active parts will be weakened. Physical Vulnerabilities: Kalak is extremely vulnerable to certain kinds of attacks. Burning, acid and flesh-eating illnesses will destroy his body mass, bringing him closer to destruction. In addition, radiation, electricity and magical attacks disrupt the magic that holds him together, causing parts of him to explode into dust. Any separate part of him that is less than 50lbs will disintegrate in less than a minute, and if that happens to be the last remaining piece then he is, for all intents and purposes, dead. Relative Recklessness: Kalak's immortality can sometimes lead him to take unnecessary risks. In his mind, the handful of decades it takes for him to be able to manifest physically again is a minor inconvenience. For those he's working with, it can be a serious problem.
